Handkerchief Obsession!

It is flue season and my workplace is infested. I don't have enough floppy-sleeve sweaters to be able to never touch a door handle or keypad buttons, so I decided to make a handkerchief! It's super easy.

Step 1: Cut an 8.5" or 12.5" square out of a prewashed, lightweight fabric (like linen).
Step 2: Press down the edges .25"
Step 3: Use a rolled hem stitch to finish the edges. Use this link if you want to learn how to do that.
Step 4: Press and use OR continue to Step 5.
Step 5: Embroider, stamp, or otherwise embellish. Then press and use.

This is the very first handkerchief I ever made!
I have gone a little farther in my fight against door-germs and made a spray to blast mine with.

  • 8 oz distilled white vinegar
  • 8 oz distilled water
  • 20 drops clove essential oil
  • 17 drops lemon essential oil
  • 10 drops cinnamon essential oil
  • 7 drops eucalyptus essential oil
  • 5 drops rosemary essential oil

Now I want to make more. Like, one for each day of the week more. Since Skyrim is my favorite game, I'd like to incorporate something from that. Shadowmarks seem like a good idea.

I'm also a fan of the Hold shields. Someone made some great art for them here: https://www.therpf.com/forums/threads/hold-shields-of-skyrim.211538/

My sister wants a bowl of petunias to go with my whale, and I'd like to do a monogrammed hankie for my husband. Or maybe he gets a triforce.

Foam Chainmaille

Yeah, you read the title right. Chainmaille made out of craft foam.

Watch Adam Savage geek out about it (also paint): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8KmARIgCdY

I'm having some trouble finding 8.5"x11" black craft foam, but I did find this: https://www.michaels.com/foamies-9x12-craft-foam-sheet/M20000715.html?dwvar_M20000715_size=9%22%20x%2012%22&dwvar_M20000715_color=Purple

It's 9"x12", 2mm thick, and $0.49 USD per sheet.

I've also found that my local library has a makerspace available at no cost!

How many doors are open to me now that chainmaille doesn't have to weigh 30+ pounds? Many. Many doors.
