A Yearly Update - Part 3
A Yearly Update Part 2
So in Part 1 I crossed off all the work I have done over the last year (which doesn't seem to have amounted to much) and I identified some plans that have since changed. Here I've taken off the completed projects, amended the things highlighted in RED, and made some notes on other projects.
Anything highlighted in GREEN is something that will be removed from the list because I just don't want to make it anymore.
Anything from #29 onward is new!
The Original List:
- Dungeon Master Work
- Mend jeans – acquire new button
- Scottish Lass - Buchanan
- Brown Skirt
- Buchanan Forepart
- Buchanan hat - need more brown linen
- New bodice - still reversible but modify the pattern to fit better under the arms and over the bust.
- Swimsuit
- Mock up
- Make top
- Make bottom
- Make coverup
- Bench Covers UFO
- Elastic Casings
- Elastic
- Delivery
- K Shorts
- Cut
- Sew
- Deliver
- Oleander Dress (Canton fabric)
- Tape pattern
- Mock-up bodice
- Sew dress
- Sleepy Belly Dancer Sleeves UFO
- Sew
- Deliver
- Winterberry
Cape (size 18/20) – This one has changed a little. I’m using a Gunnar Deathrage pattern
now, but I need to mock up parts of it to make sure I know how to do those
steps. The pattern is already cut.
Cut pattern- Mock
up front slits smaller to make sure I know wtf I’m doing.
- Cut
fabric
Determine lining method- Counter-hemmed seams! Chonky but sturdy and won't allow the lining to sag nearly as bad as bagging it. Sets a shape well. Watch out with water around the silk - the dye bleeds!– Because of the different pattern, the lining method is no longer a concern that I have. Still need to be careful with water, though.- Sew
- Declic Shirt - Purple Fabric
- Modify pattern
- Cut
- Sew
- Mermaid
- Make net hip scarf
- Closure method
- Sew in beads
Make top– Unfettered Patterns Tie-Shoulder Tank Top! Perfect, easy, minimal modification, and I finished it last night. No net cover, though. Doesn’t really need it.Chiton-style sleevelessNet cover- Make belt? – Woven? Sewn? Sewn
and beaded?
- Make corset
- Chamomile cincher draft - I no longer think I want to use this pattern. Rather, I would like to modify my own corset pattern to have the features that I liked in the Chamomile pattern. This is due largely to the bodice pattern that I used for the Scottish Lass bodice not fitting properly.
- Sew
- Set latch busk
- Bind
- Set grommets
- Viking Revamp
- Make new underdress - currently drawing threads to mark the body of the dress because I couldn't get it lined up right to just draw on the lines.
- Make new shirt x2
One white- One dyed
- Dye
- Also dye corset laces
- Pirate corset
- Mermaid corset
- Make trim - backstrap with a rigid heddle?
- Trim shirt and dress
- Patch overdress
- Overlock pants
- Thread elastic in pants - legs and waist
- Christmas Sock UFO
- Back
- Lining
- Fur trim
- Put in gift box

- Queen of Roses
- Chiton under-layer

Box – I know that this was on the list as a note to reference the box of
UFOs, but I did clear that box out and organize the projects into smaller,
labeled boxes and it’s awesome.
- Solis Button-front Shirt – mockup
and evaluation
- Chelsea Raglan Shirt – mockup and

Words I Needed to Read
I don't know who wrote this, or when, but I found it on Pinterest and every single word rings true so I'm putting it here where I won't lose it. I hope this person is still having good days.
Yesterday, I spent 60 dollars on groceries, took the bus home,
carried both bags with two good arms back to my studio apartment
and cooked myself dinner.
You and I may have different definitions of a good day.
This week, I paid my rent and my credit card bill,
worked 60 hours between my two jobs, only saw the sun on my cigarette breaks and slept like a rock.
Flossed in the morning,
locked my door,
and remembered to buy eggs.
My mother is proud of me.
It is not the kind of pride she brags about at the golf course.
She doesn't combat topics like, "My daughter got into Yale"
with, "Oh yeah, my daughter remembered to buy eggs"
But she is proud.
See, she remembers what came before this.
The weeks where I forgot how to use my muscles,
how I would stay silent as a thick fog for weeks.
She thought each phone call from an unknown number was the notice of my suicide.
These were the bad days.
My life was a gift that I wanted to return.
My head was a house of leaking faucets and burnt-out lightbulbs.
Depression, is a good lover.
So attentive; has this innate way of making everything about you.
And it is easy to forget that your bedroom is not the world,
That the dark shadows your pain casts is not mood-lighting.
It is easier to stay in this abusive relationship than fix the problems it has created.
Today, I slept in until 10,
cleaned every dish I own,
fought with the bank,
took care of paperwork.
You and I might have different definitions of adulthood.
I don't work for a salary, I didn't graduate from college,
but I don't speak for others anymore,
and I don't regret anything I can't genuinely apologize for.
And my mother is proud of me.
I burned down a house of depression,
I painted over murals of greyscale,
and it was hard to rewrite my life into one I wanted to live
But today, I want to live.
I didn't salivate over sharp knives,
or envy the boy who tossed himself off the Brooklyn bridge.
I just cleaned my bathroom,
did the laundry,
called my brother.
Told him, "It was a good day."
